My Two Cents

15) Original Post: Apple CEO Steve Jobs Live at D8: All We Want to Do is Make Better Products

Comment:

I am a long time Microsoft user and I must admit while it is comfortable and familiar, I always look over at the apple products and wish it could be a little more like that. I agree with the comment that said that they basically just copy whatever Mac is doing. The only reasons I do not have a Mac is because they are too expensive, and too complicated to work. I know plenty of people that love their Mac’s and I respect that but I can’t seem to get away from my PC. Maybe one day I will make the transformation but for now I do not have the money or the patience to do so.

14) Original Post: @BPGlobalPR Exposed! (Well, Almost. Kinda.)

Comment:

I must admit that I really do not like twitter but when I heard about this I had to log on and check it out. This is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. I even re-tweeted one of BPGlobalPR’s messages. My first RT ever!

I know that BP’s real PR team must not be too happy about this guy but I think that they have way bigger problems than him which is why they haven’t said anything to counter his statements or tried to get him taken off of twitter. That and the fact that it would probably just make them look like they are repressing free speech and they do not need that PR nightmare on top of the one they already have. I think that BP is doing the right thing by simply ignoring him. I cannot think of a better option.

I also read this article about company executives using inappropriate language. I think that when you are in a casual situation on personal time you should be able to say and do pretty much whatever you want. However, when you are representing a company and are in the public view you should keep your language in check. I know that there were probably no consequence for these uses of foul language but it could have affected the reputation of the company which could negatively impact sales, which is the main goal of a company in the first place. I don’t think that any employee especially an executive should do such things that could put the company in jeopardy.

12) Original Post: Dashes to Commas information from Grammar Girl

Comment:

I must admit that it is a rare occurrence for me to use dashes or parenthesis in my writing. And most of the time when I use them, it is in a more casual style of writing. I would never use them for example in a research paper or a thesis unless it was specifically required and there was no way that I could get around it. However, I do use commas quite often. I probably use them too much and when they are not needed but for some reason I just think they are necessary and cannot stop using them. I think it is a great idea to use these as tools to spice up your writing. Maybe I should try it.

11) Original Post: Get out there and Volunteer

Comment:

I agree that volunteering is one of the greatest experiences there is. I started volunteering with my family when I was about five years old and I have loved it ever since. Not only do you get to make a difference, but at the end of the day you feel accomplished and like your life has meant something. Recently my volunteering has been focused in the area of environmental responsibility and I love every second of it. I do PR for the campus organization The Student Alliance for a Green Earth. Every time we have a successful event or reach a specific goal I am filled with so much pride that I know I couldn’t get any other way.

10) Original Post: Meth Ads… Crossing the Line!?

Comment:

I definitely agree that these meth ads are in your face, scary, and slightly disturbing. But I think that was the point in making them. Most ads attempt to draw you in so that you will try a product or service. This ads purpose is to scare the crap out of you so that you will never go anywhere near meth. Not even once. I actually think that these ads are quite brilliant and very effective. I know that it would make me think twice before using meth, not that I have ever had the desire to do so. These ads so us a different side to PR. The darker side, if you will.

9) Original Post: PR Connections- Two’s Company, Three’s a Crowd… What’s 19?

Comment:

I must say I did not know all of this about the Duggars before I read this post. I knew that they were super religious and didn’t allow their kids to be free thinkers but that’s about all. I agree that this would be a PR nightmare. This post reminded me of a quote by Ayn Rand “Reason is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be conquered by it.” I feel like this applies to the Duggars. They live their life according to what their bible tells them and not everything in the bible is reasonable in today’s world. I think that this is the main reason they are not affected by the negative PR. Because they will not listen to what others have to say about the lifestyle they have chosen.

8 ) Original Post: A Fake Twitter Account

Comment:

I must admit that at times I have thought about creating a fake twitter account or a fake facebook page. However I don’t mean fake in the sense that I would be pretending to be someone else as is the case with the BP account. I mean fake as in it would be an account that I would let prospective and current employers know about and the information on it would be tame and professional. Then I would have a real account for only my friends that would host all of the juicy info and pictures on it. However, with technology being the way it is today I decided against it. I figured if they really wanted to they could find those accounts and hold them against me L

7) Original Post: Companies, Celebrities, Politicians, and ultimately PR Professionals are dropping the ball

Comment:

I can honestly say that I agree with pretty much everything said in this blog. One thing that you mentioned reminded me of a saying that I heard at a speech about Crisis Management and PR. The speaker said “No matter how much mayonnaise you add to chicken s#!t, you can’t make it taste like chicken salad.” I feel like with many PR crises these days, people make the biggest mistakes when they try to cover it up. You were right in saying that it would be much better to just come out and admit you were wrong. And preferably not wait months to do so. Anyway, great post!

6) Original Post: PRCA 3330- PR Connections #2

I also have the guilt pleasure of going online to see what Perez has been up to. Although I must admit that lately my blogging guilty pleasure has been visiting the Team-Twilight blog. I just love how they have all of the updates on everything that is going on with all of the twilight stars not just the main characters. I love Perez for the gossip but if I  was factual information that is borderline stalker like, I go to Team-Twilight.

I think that it is very inspiring to see bloggers that have gotten famous frm their online works. It gives me a little bit of hope when I look at my dashboard and my stats continue to be in the single digits.

5) Original Post: PR Connections 2

Comment:

I agree with you about what most people look for when searching through blogs. To be honest, before I started taking PR classed I never read blogs. Now that I am responsible for keeping one I read them all the time I find myself noticing the specific things that make me come back to a blog over and over. I think the main thing that attracts me is if the person is blogging about a topic that I do not already know about. For example, pretty much every blog about social media gets skipped over by me because I think that it is an overused topic and do not care to read any more about it. I think this post is very helpful in giving tips to keep readers coming back.

4) Original Post: Blog Comments

Comment:

I think that this is pretty dead on with regards to how to a blog comment. I think that I might add that if you do disagree with some that is said in a blog post don’t be afraid to put in your opinion on the topic but just remember to do it in a way that is respectful and polite. I think that the main goal of most blogs is to share things with the world and there is no need to be rude or have an attitude if you do not like a post. I also agree that is it very important to let the writer know if you are a frequent visitor to their blog and if you like the content.

3) Original Post: 10 new ideas for getting inspired to write

Comment:

I think that this post is very helpful for people that have writers block. I am the type of person that has no problem writing when I have allot of research and materials to back up what I am talking about. But sometimes when I have the task of writing things that appeal to the public or specific publics I can freeze up. This doesn’t happen often but when it does it is not a fun experience. One thing that I usually do is watch some tv or do some household chores. Many an idea has come to me while doing laundry or cleaning my bathroom. I think that from now on I will try to employ the tips you have given here.

2) Original Post: AP Style Bootcamp

Comment:

This AP Boot camp was extremely helpful. I get so confused sometimes and end up flipping through the Stylebook for what seems like forever trying to find the simplest things. I think that flagging my book will be really helpful I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before. Usually I just try to jot down notes to the side or on a spare sheet of paper to help me remember where things are but I think your method may be better. In my journalism class I had the hardest time with AP style but I know that I have to master it to work in the PR field. I think this boot camp might just do the trick.

1) Original Post: How to Annoy a TV Reporter

Comment:

I think that the only thing that Slavin can do is apologize because he was clearly in the wrong. From the video it seems that he did not want the press to be there so he provoked them the cause a disruption so that there would be a reason for them to have to reschedule the meeting for another time when the press would not be there. This brings up the question of what Slavin is hiding where he would want to provoke the press in such a way. Noyes was clearly uncomfortable with being touched and politely asked Slavin several time to stop touching him. I would say that Slavin is very lucky that the situation did not get more physical than it did. I think that this will have a negative impact on Slavin from a PR perspective.
